Dendrobates tinctorius は、非常に変化に富み、色彩豊かで、鮮やかな色のインクが飛び散ったように見えることから、染色ヤドクガエルとして知られています。ブリーダーや愛好家は、単に「ティンクス」と呼ぶことがよくあります。これはヤドクガエルの中でも最大級の種です。ほとんどの種は体長が 1 インチにも満たず、ミバエよりも大きなものは食べませんが、成体の染色ヤドクガエルは体長が 2 インチにもなり、生後 2 週間のコオロギやそれより大きな獲物を食べます。この種は、南アメリカ北部のベネズエラからガイアナ、スリナム、ブラジルの一部、およびフランス領ギアナのほぼ全域に分布しています。
