Native to the humid lowland rainforests of French Guiana and northern Brazil, this medium-sized fossorial tarantula is instantly recognizable by its iridescent metallic-blue chelicerae (“fangs”)—a feature unlike any other species in the hobby. Its body displays rich mahogany and olive tones with golden leg banding and a dark velvety abdomen, creating a striking contrast when the fangs are exposed in defensive postures or during feeding. In the wild, E. cyanognathus constructs silk-lined burrows in moist, shaded areas of the forest floor, often reinforced with webbing and leaf litter.
