TERRESTRIAL GRAB N GO KIT: Phormictopus auratus (Cuban Bronze) 1.5"+
Phormictopus auratus, commonly known as the Cuban Bronze Tarantula, is a large, fast-growing terrestrial species native to the tropical forests and scrublands of Cuba. This impressive New World species is known for its lustrous metallic bronze-gold carapace and legs, offset by a velvety dark abdomen—a coloration that becomes increasingly vivid after each molt. In its native habitat, P. auratus inhabits humid lowland forests and agricultural clearings, creating burrows beneath rocks, roots, and decaying wood where temperature and moisture remain stable throughout the year. It is an opportunistic ambush predator with a strong feeding response and confident demeanor, yet typically retreats rather than attacks when disturbed. As with most Phormictopus, it is robust, hardy, and capable of rapid growth when well-fed. In captivity, P. auratus thrives with deep, slightly moist substrate, moderate humidity, and consistent warmth, making it a spectacular display species for intermediate and advanced hobbyists alike.
