Hapalopus formosus ('True' Pumpkin Patch) Bulk
Hapalopus formosus, commonly known as the Pumpkin Patch Tarantula, is one of the most brilliantly patterned dwarf species in the hobby. Native to the tropical lowland forests of Colombia, this striking tarantula displays vivid orange and black markings across its abdomen resembling a “patchwork pumpkin” pattern, contrasted by deep bronze legs and carapace. Despite its small size, H. formosus is bold, active, and highly visible, making it one of the most captivating dwarf display species available. In the wild, it inhabits moist forest floors rich in leaf litter and decaying wood, where it constructs silk-lined retreats beneath logs or stones. It is an opportunistic burrower and webber, preferring humid microhabitats with stable warmth. In captivity, H. formosus thrives in enclosures with moderately deep, slightly moist substrate, plenty of web anchor points, and consistent humidity—rewarding attentive keepers with color, activity, and fascinating behavior far beyond its size.
