Lasiodora striatipes (Bahia Grey Birdeater) Bulk
Lasiodora striatipes, commonly known as the Bahia Scarlet Birdeater, is a massive, fast-growing terrestrial tarantula native to the humid forests and grasslands of eastern Brazil. A close relative of the well-known Lasiodora parahybana, this species is equally impressive in size but exhibits a darker, more refined coloration—deep black and mahogany tones accented by subtle reddish setae on the femurs and abdomen. In the wild, L. striatipes occupies burrows and natural cavities along forest edges, riverbanks, and shaded grasslands, where moisture remains stable throughout the year. It is a bold yet hardy species with an intense feeding response and high visibility, often remaining in the open near its burrow entrance. Though capable of defensive postures and urticating hair use, it is generally predictable when left undisturbed. In captivity, L. striatipes thrives in deep, slightly moist substrate with good ventilation and steady warmth—offering exceptional growth rates and commanding presence for advanced keepers.
