Tliltocatl (Brachypelma) albopilosus (Curly Hair) Tarantula
Tliltocatl albopilosus, widely known as the Curly Hair Tarantula, is a hardy, slow-growing terrestrial species native to the tropical rainforests and lowland savannas of Honduras, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica. Beloved for its gentle temperament and distinctive appearance, this species features a dark brown to black body covered in long, fine, golden-curled setae that give it a soft, fuzzy look under light. In the wild, T. albopilosus inhabits humid forest floors, constructing burrows beneath logs, roots, or stones where moisture remains stable year-round. It is primarily nocturnal, emerging at night to forage for small invertebrates. This species is highly adaptable, thriving in both moist forest and transitional dry forest zones. In captivity, it is one of the most forgiving and beginner-friendly tarantulas—requiring moderate humidity, deep substrate, and minimal disturbance. Its calm demeanor and charming appearance have made it a staple species in both educational and display collections worldwide.
