Gold Dust Day Gecko

The day geckos of Madagascar are popular terrarium pets with dazzling colors and fascinating daytime behavior. Day Geckos are not only beautiful and interesting, but also grow almost a foot in total length and make spectacular display lizards. All day geckos are omnivores that consume not only small insects, but also nectar, pollen and fruits, and a number of nutritious commercial diets or diet supplements are now available in the pet trade. They will also eat purees of fresh fruits like papaya or similar fruit baby foods, and females will consume dry calcium supplement from a shallow dish like a baby food jar lid in order to replenish their “chalk sacs”, which are calcium storage areas in the back of the throat. This is very important for breeding females. Giant Day Geckos are fast and nervous and have very delicate skins so they are hands-off pets that are best enjoyed by watching their very active behavior in a well-planted, spacious vertically-oriented terrarium. They are territorial and best housed alone, but can be kept in sexual pairs if provided sufficient space.
