In the wild, G. pulchripes inhabits open plains and savanna edges, constructing burrows or utilizing natural cavities in compact soil where temperature and humidity remain stable below the surface. It is a patient ambush predator and among the calmest tarantulas known—ideal for display and educational settings. Slow-growing but long-lived, females may exceed 20 years in captivity and reach impressive size with steady husbandry. In captivity, this species thrives in enclosures with deep, slightly dry substrate, low-to-moderate humidity, and good ventilation—rewarding keepers with visibility, beauty, and a gentle temperament.
