Madagascan Tomato Frog
The orange-red coloration and roundish shape of this cute and chubby frog give it the appropriate popular name of “tomato frog". When this frog is threatened it puffs itself up to appear even plumper. It has a narrow mouth that appears to be smiling, another trait that makes this such an endearing terrarium pet.
It lives on wet forest floor and does well in a terrestrial terrarium with at least 2 inches of coconut fiber (e.g. Eco-Earth) that is wetter at one end of the enclosure. They like to burrow in the damp dirt and ambush crickets or small roaches as they walk by and also relish nightcrawlers (cut in half for smaller frogs) or other worms. Keep 65-80ºF and prevent potentially lethal higher temperatures.
