Brachypelma albiceps (Mexican Golden Red-rump) Tarantula
Brachypelma albiceps, known as the Mexican Golden Red Rump Tarantula, is a stunning terrestrial species endemic to the dry tropical forests and scrublands of Guerrero and Morelos, Mexico. This species is easily recognized by its golden-blonde carapace that contrasts beautifully against its deep crimson abdomen and dark legs—making it one of the most visually captivating Brachypelma species. In the wild, B. albiceps constructs silk-lined burrows beneath rocks, roots, or within compact earthen banks, where it maintains a stable, humid microclimate during Mexico’s long dry season. It is primarily nocturnal and spends daylight hours hidden within its retreat, emerging at dusk to ambush passing insects. Docile, deliberate, and long-lived, this species is a classic example of New World calmness and an ideal choice for both collectors and beginner keepers. In captivity, it thrives with moderately dry substrate, seasonal misting, and a secure hide that mimics the stability of its native burrows.
