Brachypelma baumgarteni (Mexican Orange Beauty) 2.5" MALE FEMALE PAIR
Brachypelma baumgarteni, commonly called the Mexican Orange Beauty Tarantula, is a rare and striking terrestrial species native to the Pacific slopes of Michoacán, Mexico. This species is closely related to B. smithi and B. auratum, yet distinguished by its more copper-orange leg banding and slightly darker carapace. In the wild, B. baumgarteni inhabits tropical dry forests and scrublands, establishing silk-lined burrows beneath rocks and roots where soil moisture and temperature remain stable through the dry season. Slow-growing but exceptionally long-lived, it is calm, deliberate, and highly tolerant of observation—making it an ideal display species. During the wet season, individuals may emerge from their burrows at dusk to forage, relying on slow, calculated movements rather than speed. In captivity, it flourishes in moderately dry conditions with deep substrate, secure hides, and periodic light misting to simulate natural rainfall cycles.
