Caribena laeta, commonly known as the Puerto Rican Pinktoe Tarantula, is an elegant arboreal species endemic to the coastal and montane forests of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. It is easily recognized by its deep violet-blue leg sheen, contrasting golden-brown abdomen, and dense, velvety setae that shimmer under ambient light. Unlike its relative C. versicolor, C. laeta favors slightly drier microclimates and higher airflow, often taking up residence in palm fronds, hollow branches, and the undersides of large leaves. This species constructs elaborate tubular webs that line its retreats, emerging primarily at night to ambush flying insects. Generally calm and deliberate in movement, C. laeta is prized for its beauty, visibility, and adaptability, thriving both in tropical display enclosures and controlled breeding setups.
