Psalmopoeus victori, known as the Mexican Bronze Tarantula, is a relatively new and highly distinctive species in the Psalmopoeus genus, described in 2013. Endemic to the tropical forests of Veracruz, Mexico, it stands out with its rich bronze-green coloration, subtle copper iridescence, and darker femoral bands. Adults display a lustrous metallic sheen that intensifies under warm light, while juveniles begin with pale tan hues that darken with successive molts. In the wild, P. victori inhabits humid evergreen and semi-deciduous forests along the Gulf coastal plain, retreating into tree hollows, under loose bark, and within thick tangles of vines. It is a swift, secretive species that relies on dense web retreats for security and humidity control. Although quick to hide when disturbed, it often remains visible near its retreat entrance, making it an engaging species for experienced keepers who appreciate New World arboreals with understated elegance.
