Pamphobeteus sp. 'Magna' (Ecuadorian Magna Bird-eater)
Pamphobeteus sp. “Magna” is a magnificent, large-bodied terrestrial tarantula native to the humid lowland rainforests of Ecuador and Colombia. As one of the most striking and fast-growing members of its genus, this undescribed species is admired for its intense metallic violet carapace, deep black legs, and shimmering magenta abdominal setae that give it an unmistakable regal appearance. Adult females are massive and powerfully built, while males exhibit dramatic sexual dimorphism—maturing into brilliant bronze and rose hues with long, elegant legs. In the wild, P. sp. “Magna” inhabits rich tropical forest floors layered with decaying vegetation, constructing shallow silk-lined retreats beneath logs and roots where humidity remains stable. It is an aggressive feeder and active ambush hunter, relying on strength and speed to subdue prey. In captivity, it thrives with deep, slightly moist substrate, good airflow, and warm, stable conditions, rewarding keepers with impressive size, beauty, and vivid post-molt coloration.
