Psalmopoeus reduncus, commonly known as the Costa Rican Chevron Tarantula, is a fast-growing arboreal species found throughout the humid lowland rainforests and cloud forest foothills of Costa Rica and Nicaragua. Though less vividly marked than its relatives, P. reduncus displays a refined beauty—olive and chestnut tones across the carapace and legs, accented by faint chevrons on the abdomen and subtle iridescence under direct light. In the wild, it inhabits vertical tree cavities, palm frond bases, and dense vine tangles where moisture and airflow remain balanced. Its behavior is typical of the genus: swift, secretive, and highly responsive to vibration. Unlike many defensive New World species, P. reduncus relies on speed and retreat rather than threat displays. When kept in captivity, it adapts readily to vertically oriented enclosures with good ventilation, moderate humidity, and ample anchor points for webbing—thriving when its natural environment is closely replicated.
