Theraphosa apophysis, known as the Pinkfoot Goliath Tarantula, is the largest and most elegant member of the Theraphosa genus—capable of exceeding even T. blondi in leg span. Native to the dense, humid lowland rainforests of southern Venezuela and northern Brazil, this spectacular species is easily identified by its long, slender legs, reddish-brown body, and distinctive pink tarsal pads (“feet”) that give it its common name. In its natural environment, T. apophysis occupies deep burrows or natural cavities in the forest floor near streams and swampy clearings, where the air remains warm and saturated year-round. Agile and powerful, it is a nocturnal ambush predator that feeds on a wide range of prey, from large insects to small vertebrates. Though defensive and equipped with highly irritating urticating hairs, this species is a stunning display tarantula prized for its size, color, and rarity. In captivity, T. apophysis thrives in deep, humid substrate with high airflow, steady warmth, and consistent moisture levels that replicate its rainforest habitat.
